Grave Mercy was a book I had been eyeing for a while. The lack of comments made me apprehensive. I was scared of wasting my money on something I wouldn't like. I didn't hear much about it at all but did found that those who did talk about it actually really loved it. After seeing it for a little more than $5 on amazon I thought I would take a chance. It arrived and I was in shock! This is a monster of a book! Over 500 pages! I was expecting no more than 300! I love long books! So I was sold with the size alone! I went into it knowing just that it follows a female assassin on her biggest mission. The concept is so different than anything I've read before. It was suspenseful and funny. The writing style was perfect and easy to read! The use of French terminology added to the storyline! The world building was great and I felt as though I was in the story too! The convent and its teachings were great to read about. It all added to the story. The special powers they had also added to the concept. The poisons, weapons, fighting lessons and female arts lessons were a great way to add to the story. I felt at those I was learning along side her. I couldn't stop thinking about the story's world when I was away from it! I took a liking to Ismae almost immediately! Her character was so likeable and strong. It was great to have a female character whos beliefs and morals were not easily changed. The love interest happened rather fast but I was very happy to see that it didn't take the main focus of the book or main character. Though I wish they had a little bit more time to sort out their feelings. I felt as though one day they suddenly developed and interest and the next were in love. I would have loved more time for them to tread the waters of their relationship. All in all Robin LaFevers delivered an easy to read and easy to fall in love with story and characters. I HIGLY recommend this read! If you've yet to read it please do so!
